I used the Automatic Upgrade plugin before the last WP upgrade, which enabled you to do it from the dashboard through WP, not the plugin. This time I backed up my database and then used the built-in upgrade. It was actually my easiest upgrade ever.

Everything looks good, except I got the “Your Backup Folder Might Be Visible to the Public” message. I moved the folder to where they requested, but the huge red warning never went away. That will probably drive me insane.

The coolest new thing I’ve seen is that HTML coding in post titles doesn’t disappear when you open the post to edit again. I always use the ♥ code for iHeartFaces posts, but if I made any additional edits I would have to type the code again. Now it seems to stay okay when I open the posts again in the dashboard.

  2. UGH. OK, I saw that it was available and didn’t do anything. I think I need to start with the simple backing up my content. Which I don’t do on a regular basis. Which I need to do on a regular basis. Do you have good instructions for that?

Holly – If I were you, I *might* consider just waiting for 2.8.1 to be released… let them work the kinks out.
The instructions for that are included here: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups, though, they tend to make me want to gouge my eyes out…
