- EU to Set Volume Limits on MP3 Players – “Now hear this, if you still can: The European Union said Monday it wants makers of popular digital music players to recommend users turn the volume down to preserve their hearing.”
- Driven to Distraction – Truckers Insist on Keeping Computers in the Cab – “Crisscrossing the country, hundreds of thousands of long-haul truckers use computers in their cabs to get directions and stay in close contact with dispatchers, saving precious minutes that might otherwise be spent at the side of the road.Like many truckers, Kurt Long uses a dispatching computer. “We’re supposed to pull over,” he said, “but nobody ever does.”
The trucking industry says these devices can be used safely, posing less of a distraction than BlackBerrys, iPhones and similar gadgets, and therefore should be exempted from legislation that would ban texting while driving. - Update: AT&T ‘pleased’ with iPhone MMS rollout three days in – “Nearly three days after activating its multimedia messaging service (MMS) to iPhone 3G and 3GS, AT&T Inc. said today it was “pleased with the rollout” despite continuing user complaints on its own Facebook page.”
- Google’s 11th Birthday Gift: Another Odd Logo – “Yesterday Google rolled out a misspelled doodle: For one day only, the company was “Googlle.” Two Ls for the big 11–a bit more understated than last year’s cupcake in the O. Of course, a company’s birthday isn’t quite so cut and dried. Larry Page and Sergey Brin first teamed up to form a company back in January 1996; Google.com was registered in September 1997; and the company was incorporated on September 4th of the following year.”
- Google’s response to AT&T’s charges on Google Voice – “Google’s response to AT&T’s charges that Voice discriminates against users in certain, expensive locations. Google’s argument: yes, the common carrier system is broken and should be fixed so that local carriers can’t rip off common carriers for outrageous connection fees.”
